Santa Cruz will be filled with color and brightness for the evening of June 23rd, when the traditional Marches of Saint John will take to the streets.
It is an organization of the Casa do Povo of Santa Cruz in partnership with the Municipality and the local Parish.
From 7 pm onwards, the usual parade and the traditional Saint John’s supper are scheduled for participating groups, which will be served at Praça Padre Patrocínio Alves, in Santa Cruz.
The groups will gather on Rua Bela de São José, next to the Casa da Cultura (Quinta do Revoredo), proceeding to Rua da Ponte Nova, Rua José Barros e Sousa, Praça Dr. João Abel de Freitas, Rua 17 de Junho 1876 , Rua de São Fernando, Rua Nova de São Fernando and Rua da Praia, ending its parade next to the Municipal Market, in Praça Padre Patrocínio Alves.
This year’s edition will feature 11 Marching Groups, around 600 extras, from various parts of the Region, namely: Folklore Group from Casa do Povo de Santa Cruz; Casa do Povo da Ribeira Brava; Nogueira Community Center and CACI; Cloud of Affection; House of the People of São Martinho; Machico Senior University; Parish Council of the Immaculate Heart of Mary; House of the People of Serra de Água; Funchal Community Center; Karate Association of Santo António and Marcha da Madalena do Mar. After the parade of marchers through the streets of the city, the groups will take the stage for a performance, at Praça Padre Patrocínio Alves. The entertainment continues to be guaranteed by the performance of the Folklore Group of Casa do Povo de Santa Cruz and the Cordophonia Group”, it is reported.
Also Caniço de Baixo celebrates the eve of Sao Joao down at Rei Magos, a good atmosphere, with food, drink and music. Normally there are also fireworks around 10.30 pm.
