The Pianocean project, created by Marieke Huysmans-Berthou, arrives this afternoon, at 7:00 pm, in Funchal, more precisely in the area between Cais da Cidade and Cais de Recreio do Porto, where the public from Madeira and beyond will be able to attend a free piano concert on board the sailboat, ‘Lady Flow’.
APRAM sponsors the concerts of this French artist scheduled for today, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, at the same time and place.
The Pianocean project, which was previously in the Azores (as reported by JM Online last May) unites art and the sea, present in the voice and piano of Marieke Huysmans-Berthou, who performs on board the ‘Lady Flow’ in the various places she visits, promoting the music she composes during her travels and shares in these concerts, in a unique and differentiating concept.
For the past 10 years, this artist has spent six months aboard her sailboat. When sailing, the piano is kept locked in the cabin and during shows it is raised to the deck, transforming it into a stage. These performances have taken place in many ports and marinas in the Mediterranean, France, Ireland, Scotland, Norway and the Azores, with the audience watching from the dock.
The sailboat also has a recording studio in the aft cabin.
After Madeira, the Canary Islands will follow. At the end of this tour, Marieke Huysmans-Berthou will embark on the first transatlantic voyage of the ‘Lady Flow’ to Canada.
