Madeiran man arrested in Indonesia was brought before a judge

The Portuguese, Fernando Sousa and Rui Viana, the latter from Madeira, who are imprisoned in Indonesia for drug trafficking, have already appeared before the judge.

According to Notícias ao Minuto, the individuals were brought before the judge for the second time on June 25, in a session attended by their lawyers and a representative from the Portuguese Embassy in Jakarta.

An official source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed to this website that new sessions will take place over the next few weeks, and that “there is still no date set for the trial”.

As reported by DIÁRIO, the Madeiran, former player for Câmara de Lobos and son of Rui Óscar, who played for Marítimo, was arrested in possession of 2.5 kilos of cocaine.

Rui Viana, 21, spoke too much on his mobile phone before arriving at baggage control at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Indonesia, and his nervousness raised suspicions among the authorities. The young man admitted to the scheme and said that the goods had been delivered to him, also revealing that he had received 6,000 euros for the transport.

That’s how they got to Fernando Sousa, the other Portuguese man, a surfer and resident of Cascais, who was in Bali and would be the recipient of the drugs.
