Fire in Curral das Freiras is “the biggest concern at the moment”

The president of Madeira Civil Protection, António Nunes, revealed today that the fire in Curral das Freiras is “the biggest concern at the moment”.

There are “19 operators and seven resources” fighting the flames.

Regarding Serra de Água, there are currently four active fronts, “all of low intensity”.

The active front in Encumeada “passed Estalagem”, going up the mountain, but also “with low intensity”.

As for Ponta do Sol, attention is focused on Quintinha da Lombada and Furna, “with the flames progressing in a North/South direction and approaching homes, without, however, presenting “major concerns”. So much so that, according to António Nunes, the number of personnel fighting this fire has been reduced.

According to the president of Civil Protection, the fire raging in Canhas “is also at a very low intensity”, but as it is an area that is difficult to access “there are no conditions to fight the flames on foot”.

“In this theater of operations we have 14 resources and 55 operatives who, in the meantime, will be replaced by others who have been resting,” he revealed.
