“MADEIRA IS IN THE FIRST LINE TO RECEIVE TOURISTS”

The conditions created by the Region, namely the positioning of Madeira as a safe destination, place Madeira in the first line to receive tourists, believes Miguel Albuquerque.

The Government leader is optimistic that the resumption of tourism will happen this summer. The focus is on traditional markets such as the British and German.

  2. Good lucking getting the British tourists back. I am heading back from Madeira to the UK next week, and for me alone, the cost of ‘getting home’, excluding the air fare is knocking on towards 400 Euros that wasn’t there previously (PCR test before departure, tests back in the UK including day 5 test & release), plus of course the minimum home quaratine which essentially works out at 6-to-8 days once turnaround for a day 5 test & release result is factored in.

    I’ve been out here for around 5 months, so I can live with that… If these measures remain in place, there is absolutely no way I’m coming back in the summer with my family for a stay of just a few weeks… it would bankrupt me!!

    None of this is the fault of Madeira… on the contrary, they are bending over backwards to make it as easy as possible for tourism to commence, but I think they need to focus their attention on those countries where they are most likely to get some uptake. A good starting point would perhaps be to stand by their confidence that Madeira is a ‘safe tourism destination’ but adding a free PCR test for outward tourists to the free PCR Test for inbound tourists.

    (before anyone chirps in…. I’m a dual national, so the 90 days rule isn’t an issue for me)

  6. We’ve tried to book our usual 3 weeks in September/October in our timeshare but Pestana reservations have said that the Palms isn’t likely to be open by then. We’ve requested alternative accommodation at the Promenade but we’re not hopeful. Looks like we might have to try again at Christmas.

  7. Hi Maura, if all else fails, the Pestana Carlton Madeira should be open as it has been throughout the Pandemic.
    It all probably depends on Boris on the 17th May, if Portugal is given the Green light, all and sundry will be booking holidays or flights to Madeira ?Me personally I would def book Christmas as Madeira is amazing during the festive period.
