Residents in Ponta do Sol can already see the flames decending.
The advance of the flames, fanned by the winds in the high mountains of Madeira and with fuel available, despite the fierce fight waged by dozens of members of the Madeira corporations and those who came from the mainland, did not prevent the fire from reaching Bica da Cana.
One of the few forested areas of Paul da Serra, a leisure area much sought after by Madeirans and tourists, is located in the municipality of Ponta do Sol, and may even have reached the northern limits of the parishes of Canhas and Ponta do Sol. Residents of Lombada da Ponta do Sol look at the red tone above.
The status of the main focus of concern for the authorities is unknown at this time, but it is worth remembering that this is a fire that regained strength on Sunday morning and has been raging along the entire Encumeada slope since then, overcoming natural barriers and the resistance of resources on the ground, including the use of the helicopter during the day.
Also due to the direction of the wind, practically the three municipalities in the West, namely Ponta do Sol and Calheta, have been under a blanket of smoke haze for several hours, which affects the populations of several parishes.
Serra de Água and Campanário are areas where concern returns due to the rekindling of fires.
