The president of the Santana City Council, Dinarte Fernandes, is very apprehensive about the advance of the flames in Pico Ruivo.
As he explained to DIÁRIO, at this moment there are two active fronts, one towards Pico Canário and another that is generating even more concern, as it threatens to go towards Achada do Teixeira and also in the direction of Hidroeléctrica, in Fajã da Nogueira.
Dinarte Fernandes said that the Regional Civil Protection Service helicopter was already on the ground to carry out reconnaissance and also said that there are members of the Santana Volunteer Firefighters and the Forest Police on site, who are trying to prevent the fire from spreading.
However, the mayor acknowledges that it may be necessary to request reinforcements given the advance of the flames.
In addition to the Mayor of Santana, the commander of the Santana Volunteer Firefighters and the president of the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) are also present at Pico Ruivo.
Access to Pico Ruivo and Pico do Areeiro remains closed on this holiday.
