Fires: Encumeada and Paul da Serra fires remain active; Curral das Freiras has reignited

According to the Regional Civil Protection Service, the fire that started on Wednesday, August 14, in the municipality of Ribeira Brava remains active.

The situation at 12:30 p.m. indicates that there are two active fires, one in Encumeada and the other in Paul da Serra. At 12 p.m., a fire was reignited in Curral das Freiras.

In the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, in the Jardim da Serra area, active surveillance remains in place.

The Service informs that, at this moment, there are more than 40 fire-fighting vehicles on the ground, more than 150 operatives, the air force (very active and carrying out discharges) and the respective heli-transported team.

In addition to the firefighting forces, elements of the Regional Relief Operations Command (CROS), IFCN, GNR and PSP remain on the ground, providing continuous support to the operations.

The Special Civil Protection Force operatives also remain in the area of operations, supporting the fight against the fire in Paul da Serra and in the Estalagem da Encumeada area.

15 members of the Volunteer Firefighters of the Autonomous Region of the Azores arrived in Madeira this morning and are already on the ground helping to fight the fire.
