Portuguese nationals Rui Viana and Fernando Santos, who were arrested in Indonesia for drug trafficking, have already begun their trial.
According to Correio da Manhã, Rui Viana, 21, from Madeira, has confessed to the crime and expressed remorse. Fernando Santos, from Cascais, denied having committed the crime.
The same newspaper reports that the date of the sentence is not yet known, but reports that the Portuguese face very heavy sentences such as life imprisonment or the death penalty.
As reported, the Madeiran, former player for Câmara de Lobos and son of Rui Óscar, who played for Marítimo, was arrested in possession of 2.5 kilos of cocaine.
Rui Viana spoke too much on his mobile phone before arriving at baggage control at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Indonesia, and his nervousness raised suspicions among the authorities. The young man admitted to the scheme and said that the goods had been delivered to him, also revealing that he had received 6,000 euros for the transport.
That’s how they got to Fernando Sousa, the other Portuguese man, a surfer and resident of Cascais, who was in Bali and would be the recipient of the drugs.
