Seven years ago, a large tree fell in Largo da Fonte, in the parish of Monte, during the festival in honour of Madeira’s patron saint, resulting in 13 deaths and 50 injuries.
This Thursday, August 15, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of the Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven. In Madeira, there will be a Solemn Eucharist of Our Lady of the Assumption, at 11 am, in the church of Monte, presided over by the Bishop of Funchal, D. Nuno Brás.
The President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, and the President of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, José Manuel Rodrigues, attend the mass, which is followed by the Procession of Our Lady of Monte.
