Nothing like a long weekend…🤣🤣
The Madeira Teachers’ Union (SPM) has issued a strike notice for December 12th, between midnight and midnight, aiming to include all teachers in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
According to the strike notice released, signed by regional coordinator Francisco Oliveira, the SPM (Madeira Teachers’ Union) justifies the strike with “the successive postponement of the resolution of the constraints that have long affected the careers of teachers in the RAM (Madeira Autonomous Region)”. The union states that, despite the guarantees obtained from the Regional Secretariat of Education and the main political parties, it continues “not to receive concrete information about the measures to be adopted and how to implement them” on the eve of the approval of the Regional Budget for 2026.
“The waiting time is over. It’s time to fight to demand the fulfillment of the commitments made,” says the SPM in the statement.
Among the union’s demands are the counting of service time across various periods, the elimination of vacancies for career progression, the linking of teachers with one year of service, and adequate remuneration for contracted, non-professionalized teachers.
The SPM intends for the strike to take the form of a total work stoppage in all educational establishments in the Region, without the need to establish minimum services.
If confirmed, this strike, on a Friday, will coincide with the general strike already announced for December 11th, Thursday.
