The Bank of Portugal (BdP) today warned against false publications on social media regarding the issuance of a banknote in honor of footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, clarifying that it has not issued such a note and has no plans to do so.
“The Bank of Portugal has become aware of false publications, disseminated on social media, regarding the issuance, by the Bank of Portugal, of a 7 euro banknote in homage to footballer Cristiano Ronaldo,” reads the statement published today.
The central bank reiterated that it has not issued or put into circulation, nor does it plan to issue or put into circulation, “any banknote alluding to the personality in question.”
“It should also be clarified that the issuance of euro banknotes by the Bank of Portugal is done within the framework of the Eurosystem,” the central bank added.
