First account of storm damage is 15 million euros

The total amount of damage caused in public infrastructures, in the time that affected the south coast of Madeira, at the end of February and beginning of March, is 14.6 million euros.

Numbers pointed out today by the vice president of the Regional Government.

Pedro Calado says that this is a first balance sheet, since some municipalities still account for the damage.

Only in equipment of APRAM, damages were recorded in the amount of 200 thousand in Câmara de Lobos, 2.4 million in Ribeira Brava, 40 thousand euros in Ponta do Sol, 3.8 million in Paul do Mar, 1.5 million in Caniçal , and two million in Machico. In Madalena do Mar, municipality of Ponta do Sol, the damages estimated in the infrastructure of APRAM are 25 thousand euros. Also in Ponta do Sol, the recovery of the promenade of Madalena do Mar will represent an investment of 201 thousand euros.

In Funchal, in the FrenteMar the losses calculated will be 660 thousand euros and 270 thousand in Praia Formosa. In Calheta, the protection repair of the yellow sand beaches and the Serra d’Água beach represent a further 1.4 million euros. In Ribeira Brava, losses amounted to 1.3 million euros, including the beach front of Calhau da Lapa, Fajã dos Padre, as well as the sea front of that locality. (I have no idea about this at Serra d’Agua)

Pedro Calado is now worried about how the safety of some populations will be restored and recalls that if it were not for the infrastructures hit by the sea, the damage to the homes of those living on the coast would be greater.
