ANOTHER CASE OF LOCAL CONTAMINATION IN MADEIRA: UP TO 48

Miguel Albuquerque, president of the Regional Government, announced a few moments ago that Madeira is registering yet another positive case of coronavirus.

There are now 48 cases already recorded in the Region, increasing one in relation to the previous day.

  1. What concerns me the most is, we, on the island, are obviously not building up group immunity. What will happen when the tourist start coming in again when the quarantine is lifted?

    1. This won’t be for a long time, and probably not till tests are available, or something along those lines. We wouldn’t risk that after all this.

    2. Look for Castiglione d’Adda, Lombardia, Italy.

      4500 inhabitants. 190 tested positive. 3150 have been infected with the virus. 80 dead.

      70% of the population infected, group immunity achieved.

      2% of total population dead (please note 2% of TOTAL population, not 2% of the infected).

      This means that to get group immunity a hell of a lot of people need to die. This means that in UK more than 1 million people would die before immunity achieved. In Madeira, about 6000 people. And the virus can still mutate and there goes immunity. It is just crazy to look at what the UK and Netherlands were considering doing.

    How long is Portugal intending to be on lockdown… which date is the lockdown ending in madeira & portugal

    1. We are going into our 4 th week this week, then we see, maybe another two weeks, depends. But tourists won’t be coming for a long time

      1. Tobi, I think you are being a little optimistic, although you are correct in your view of when tourists will return. Madeira a small island with a small population could be back to something more normal within 7/8 weeks. But here in the UK I visualise 13/14 weeks. Huan, China, took 76 days, 11 weeks. A country where the populace does what the Authorities decree without protest. Back in the UK a proportion just doesn’t see what this problem has to with them.

        1. Let’s see shat the hot weather weekend will do also, I’m sure a lot more will ve out. I think we might get another two weeks, but I’m hoping after that it will be controlled. The last cases have already been in quarantine. We have till next Thursday then probably they will say something.
