“250,000 MASKS ARE NOT DISTRIBUTED OVERNIGHT”

Asked to comment on the fact that many Madeirans have not yet received the mask from the Regional Government at their home, Pedro Ramos said: “250 thousand masks are not distributed overnight”.

“The volume of masks distributed is increasing. Until May 15, we hope that all masks are already distributed”, underlined the minister.

But they promised this would be carried out within two weeks, just empty promises…

  1. We live in S Luzia Funchal. We received our masks on Monday. I was impressed, they are the home made washable type in white material, with a pocket for a filter and instructions for use. Well done and thank you Madeira. I must admit that I had already bought a few from the chemist, and have also been given 2 washable ones from our very kind neighbours.

  2. I live in Lido area. Still haven’t got one. I don’t believe in masks. They give us a false feeling of being safe.I believe in washing hands and that those who aren’t well stay at home.If I MUST wear a mask, I MUST get one for free.

    1. When you get the masks pass them on to someone who is more conscious and will use them.

    2. Masks do NOT give you protection!! They do however, if PROPERLY used, help protect others if YOU are infected. But if you are infected and wear the same mask for a long time it can become damp and then becomes useless.

      The virus can enter you via your eyes or a skin abrasion etc. Hence proper washing of hands is vital.

      Masks are like airbags in cars. They give you a false sense of security. With the introduction of airbags driving standards worsened because of the attitude that the bag will save you.

  3. What a prat this spokesperson is. Can’t deliver overnight fair enough, but please a month has gone by.

    The pandemic will be over by the time they drop in my mailbox.

    1. Michael, it’s not just how long it takes to deliver to every single household,but how long it takes to make them. They are sewn, 1 by 1, and don’t forget how long each one takes. I’m Italian, and there even some of the hospitals and nurses don’t have them yet. Better if we keep our distance ( and more!)

  4. We received ours today (Funchal). We had already bought reusable masks, but good to have extra since we wash them after every use.
