Here is the news that many were waiting for and which was the subject of much debate in the pages of the JM: the Consulate General of Portugal in Caracas has just announced for June 13th a flight back to Portugal for citizens with proven residence in any region of Portugal .
The flight, whose capacity is expected to run out very quickly, will bring many passengers with final destination in Madeira. Interested parties have until next Monday to book the flight, whose ticket will cost 796 euros.
According to Consul General Licínio do Amaral, the extraordinary flight aims solely and exclusively to take Portuguese citizens – and other citizens of countries in Europe – who were held in Venezuela due to the closure of Venezuelan airspace on March 15.
As the JM has been reporting, there is a long waiting list of Portuguese citizens, or with dual nationality, who are waiting for the first opportunity to return to Portugal, where they have official residence. Many are residents of Madeira.
