Thought I would share these photos I took yesterday. A walk around the lido area before a bite to eat at Leenos.

  1. Wow, it looks like a ghost town. I’m so used to seeing Lido buzzing with traffic & tourists those pictures make it look quite eerie. It’s still looking beautiful in the sunshine though!

  3. Best place to be love this part sabor da India, leenos, o’chef’ steakhouse,Tricolore , these are our main eating places , we will be back next year as this one cancelled

  8. Lovely photos that brought back so many happy memories of the last 16 years of wonderful holidays in Madeira, usually based around that area. So sad to see it looking like a ghost town. We hope to be back there next March and have fingers crossed for all the small cafes and restaurants, hoping they can manage to survive.

  11. Really interesting, Tobi. As we have always been based at the other end of town, i.e. Zona Velha, we have neglected this area as a bit of a concrete jungle – wrongly, I admit ! In fact the only restaurant we always return to is China Town which we rate pretty highly.
    The good news is that Porto Bay group run a useful ( and free !) inter-hotel shuttle – the long slog up the Av. do Infante is a bit much for these old knees…… So we will try Leeno’s in September (fingers crossed !) Best recommendation from the menu ????

  12. Lovely pictures Tobi……..am wondering what time of day it was as we are living at The Forum at the moment and often stroll round this area. We have commented that it has been a little busier lately, which has been nice to see, though still social distancing !!

  13. Feeling bittersweet as just found out that our re re scheduled trip has just been cancelled as Jet2 will not start flights from Newcastle, and some other Northern airports, until 29th October.

  15. Thanks for the nice photos! We expect to be back by mid August – First “refueling” stop will be Leenos. Hope they still have some beef and wine after your visit — 😉

  17. Thanks a lot for the lovely walk around in my beloved area. Should have been back for my 48th visit early June. I miss so much the atmosphere, the landscape and my friends and “family” there.
    Will be back as soon as the world go normal. Hope the best for all the cafes and restaurants, hope they survive. Warm hugs to all Madeira lovers

  18. I suppose things will stay quiet until the hotels are open. The Porto Bay group are not opening their resorts until next month and I suppose most other hotels are the same. Disturbing to hear Jet2 are not starting some flights until later in the year. We have booked to come late January next year.

  19. Super photos, made me smile whilst looking at the rain in the UK at the moment. Really hoping to be able to go on our holiday to the Eden Mar in September. Here’s hoping.

  20. VJ, as far as I can make out, Jet2 flights from Edinburgh are still available from 20 July onwards, so that may be another option for you, assuming our Dear Leader (!) is still allowing immigrants !

  21. So sad and eerily quiet. Good though to see they are refurbishing and hopefully strengthening that bathing area,very much overdue as its much used all year round,particularly during summer months.

    Try Dino’s above the supermarket,not the steak house, next to jewellers in the arcade.Good price,good food.
