CMF moves ahead with works at Praia do Gavinas

The Funchal City Council (CMF) started, this week, the restoration works of Praia do Gavinas.

The investment of 40 thousand euros from the municipal budget includes the replacement of the solarium, cleaning the escarpment and the renaturalization of some areas, and will be completed in the middle of next month, to enjoy the bathing season.

President Miguel Silva Gouveia and the councillor Rúben Abreu responsible for the Public Works Department in the Municipality accompanied the start of the recovery work. “The City Council, next July, will return Praia do Gavinas to Funchal and all those who visit it, so that they can enjoy a solarium and privileged access to the sea in full safety conditions”, says the President.

Miguel Silva Gouveia recalls that “the solarium at Praia do Gavinas was destroyed in 2018 as a result of the high tides that hit the coast of Funchal, along with other damage to the beaches and complexes that have also been gradually recovered by the Municipality, in a total investment of about 400 thousand euros ”.

“These improvement works to guarantee the safety of bathers and give the opportunity for another free access to the sea, affirming Funchal as a Capital of Trust, a City of all and for all”, he concludes.
