Due to the construction of the new fibre optic submarine cable on land, EEM / EMACOM is building a ditch between Praia Formosa and the Amparo land station, a situation that has been congesting traffic in that area.

“This ditch, which is currently underway, has affected circulation on a stretch of the Estrada Monumental, however, it is expected that this work will be completed by the end of the week,” says a note from the vice-presidency.

In view of the inconvenience caused, the Madeira Electricity Company thus appeals to the understanding of all, and in particular to that of the drivers, remembering that “this is vital work for the economic and social development of the Region”.

The new submarine cable connection that will connect Madeira to the Portuguese continent, through the international cable Ellalink that connects Europe to South America, should be in service in April 2021.

This international cable, being of the latest generation, will allow Madeira to have, in the next 25 years, an interconnection capacity with the world exceeding 40 times more than the current needs, leaving the Region prepared for the new paradigm of society that is digitization and connectivity.
