Easyjet Cancel 4 Flights

Easyjet have cancelled four flights today, 2 from mainland Portugal this morning, and the easyjet flights from Gatwick and Bristol this morning.

Looking at social media it looks like these flights have been cancelled due to bad weather in Madeira, but that’s not confirmed yet.

The wind could be strong at the airport, and it’s very cloudy looking out that way.

Anyone on those flights who can confirm the reason for cancellation.

    1. I have been coming to Madeira since 1968 and have notched up over 50 trips, this is my first visit in August, phew. We landed at Madeira 20.00 hours Monday, after one failed attempt we landed. Worst landing I have ever experienced, have had two diverts since coming here and the wind was strong enough when walking to the Terminal Building for you to have to lean into it. This was with Jet2. When you count the cost of diverting, it’s understandable, I don’t think EasyJet’s attitude or TAP, is cavalier.

    EasyJet website says the flights are delayed 24 hours due to high winds in Funchal airport. They are arranging hotel accommodation.

    We are in Santa Cruz and it is very windy and had been since yesterday. There are some very strong gusts, which are a bigger problem for the aircraft, and these are forecast to get worse.

    I would rather be put up overnight and try tomorrow than fly over to attempt a landing. Diversions are difficult with Covid-19 restrictions, so if the plane can’t land it would most likely have to return. Up to 8 hours in a mask wouldn’t be much fun.

  6. Lucky me. When travel restrictions lifted last week I checked flight availability for today before confirming accommodation. When I went back to book the flight for me and my wife the cost had gone up by £400.00!! Now travelling next Monday, when , hopefully, the weather is settled.

  7. I have just looked on the Bristol airport app and the flight from Bristol to Funchal is delayed until 7.20 am tomorrow morning !

  8. Just looked at the BBC weather forecast. The maximum wind speed for today is 20 mph and that’s first thing this morning. If they are blaming the wind it’s another of their numerous feeble excuses for cancelling flights. They couldn’t care less about letting down their customers. They did it to us only once, never again.

Strange that the weather at both Bristol & Gatwick for those cancelled flights are listed on the BBC Weather Map as being rain for Gatwick and a chance of rain for Bristol but in both cases a gentle breeze/light winds. Looking at the estimated times those flights would have landed, should they have taken off on time, shows Funchal would be enjoying the end of a sunny day and only light winds from the ENE! So, why were they cancelled?

  10. Jet2 flight just landed. A little windy here but landing was perfect. We should be good to go.

    1. What time flight was that, out of which UK airport? As I have said elsewhere, we were on hold for ten minutes because of cross winds, then we had one aborted attempt to land, landing successfully on the second attempt and having to lean into the wind as we we walked to the Terminal building.

  13. I think the reason for flight cancellation is lack of qualified pilots. The flight with transavia from Amsterdam had no problems this morning. All very strange.

  14. EasyJet thinking of their customers again, cancelling all flights to Madeira because someone mentioned the words gust and wind. It must be a miracle that every other airline landed today and only one of those was delayed by 43 min.

  15. Lucky for me as I had planned on flying out today after restrictions lifted. On Friday I checked flight availability and price with Easyjet, then checked hotel availability was k. Went back to book flights and price had gone up by £400.00!
    Now booked to fly out next Monday, when hopefully flight takes off.
