Yes we have booked with easy jet for 7th dec which still is operating but if you go to book another flight then it says no flights from 23rd Oct till 29th March from Manchester , so I guess it’s a waiting game now probably will be last minute when they cancel us ! But will get money back just disappointing as we have other members of family going from different airports , looks like I will have to try and boom with jet 2 when easy jet decide to cancel me or move is to the Gatwick flight lol

  3. As EasyJet was not listed from Manchester I checked the website. It looks like the are not flying after 23 rd October till March 2021. My flight was on 26th October, returning on 9th November. EasyJet has not cancelled my flights yet, but I am afraid that I will not go on holiday this year.

  4. I have booked with jet2 from Manchester on the 5th December.They are doing three flights a week, fingers crossed for another terrific Christmas in Madeira.

  5. Yes I seen they have got 3 flights on , I think Madeira will be very different at Christmas this year to the previous 45years I have been going , but it will still be nice

    Excellent organisation of the most up to date flight information. Thanks to all of your efforts (both of you), I was prepared when I came through the system arriving in Madeira in the first week of September. The organisation at Madeira Airport is brilliant with loads of helpful staff, and the whole system is well thought through and tip-top.

    Tips for others: Register and fill out the Madeira Safe online form the day before you travel and don’t worry about a couple of the questions asking whether you’ve come from a ‘place/area’ with Covid – they’re really not bothered about those bits. But do make sure you enter and remember your chosen password correctly, as you only get one shot when setting it up.

    At FNC, when you emerge past the hire car offices, you are directed just outside by the Ronaldo statue into a cordoned-off (covered) area for your Covid test. Free water and banana handed to you (thoughtful touch and typical of Madeiran hospitality), then your Madeira Safe QR code is taken and mobile number/email confirmed for the result. Then you are guided for your test in thoroughly cleaned cabins. The whole lot took only minutes and I was through it all in less than half an hour from touch down.

    Results came via email early the next morning – Sunday for me, after an on time Saturday evening landing. Plane was pretty full with a few empty seats dotted about.

    In central Funchal, everyone wears a mask when they go into a building (shops, etc.) but most in the street don’t bother. I’ve found it about as busy as pre-Covid and most places are still open. Only spotted a couple of shops and restaurants which haven’t survived.

I am working on two new articles, one about daily life in Madeira during 2020, and one giving step-by-step information concerning the arrival here, preparations and test procedures. Your information is very helpful, as I depend on other people’s experiences. You will recognise some of your info-snippets in my upcoming articles.

    To Peter for putting together but I would Recommend Jet 2 every time,they are consistent and honest:
    Fair pricing , excellent service on board
    And in airport, easily contactable when issues arise, and remain helpful when trying to resolve problems
    Their pilots are very well trained With the additional ticket for our exceptionally difficult landings here and do always try to land , weather permitting re safety of passengers ; other carriers wince at the sniff of a wind and either turn round or defer landing to an alternative destination causing much grief for the traveller !
    Easy jet – forget it… never reliable- cancel at will -hard to rebook or get money back !
    British Airways not much better
    Jet 2 every time !!

    1. We’ve used BA for many years and they have always served us well. When our June trip was cancelled we had no problem getting a full refund and, they didn’t take any Avios points back. We are booked with them to get to & from the island this Xmas.

      The only time we have had trouble getting to the island was with Easyjet, too long a story to go into. Will not use them again.

      Not tried Jet2 but have to say I have only heard good things about them. Plus, they fly from Stansted which is our nearest airport.

  9. My wife and I travelled with EasyJet on 10th September from Gatwick to Madeira. The flight had been due to depart at 07.40 hrs, but did not leave until about 11.00. Hrs. This was due to forecast of severe winds at Madeira airport. We were given vouchers worth £6 each towards the purchase of refreshments. We had been filling in the madeirasafe form daily. The.test for covid was not particularly pleasant but was achieved quite quickly and then we were on our way. The Pestana Carlton is our hotel, the Pestana Ocean Bay not yet being open. A kettle and the makings were brought to our room, and later, a hot meal with wine. Negative results were emailed through in early morning. Marvellous experience. If only the UK Airports could do the same.

If you have booked with easy jet then they have taken all there flights off from 23rd Oct to March next year so you will have to wait till they cancel you , I was told they cancel 14 days before up till even the day ! I am not happy about this either but these are not normal times and booking flights and holidays comes with risks

  12. Had a look at BA’s site and flights to the island are from Heathrow until Nov 8th then they appear to resume from Gatwick.

      BA appear to have changed plans and will not now resume Gatwick flights. They are continuing from from Heathrow.

  13. We are coming from Toronto, Canada and SATA Azores is flying the same schedules as pre-covid days for 2021. We are looking forward to coming in January and staying for the entire winter to enjoy the beautiful island of Madeira.

  14. The 2 Easyjet Switzerland flights per week since 2017 from Basel to Funchal are no longer offered from 20. October 2020 to 31 March 2021

  15. We have used Jet2 forom Manchester for many years and been very happy with them. We were due to fly out this Friday for 4 weeks but on 13 August we received an e-mail from Jet2 cancelling our flights due to Covid making them operate a reduced schedule. However on checking the Jet2 website today, it appears that the flight out on Friday (18) is still available to book and there are plenty of empty seats, and our proposed return flight is also still available so what the devil are Jet2 playing at. There is no point trying to contact them, assuming you were able to, as it is clearly too late to do anything about it. We did get a refund from them fairly promptly but why cancel if the flight is still going?

  16. Have today been told by BA that our Jan and Feb flights from Gatwick are cancelled. Their communication is uninformative, but what it seems to mean is that our seats have been re-booked on equivalent flights from Heathrow.

  17. BA have just cancelled four flights of ours from Gatwick to Funchal which were variously leaving/departing on weekends and a Wednesday. It seems they are going back to only flying twice a week for the moment – perhaps for the Winter schedule – on a Monday and possibly a Friday.

  18. Thanks Tobi – you would have thought they could have said that in their email rather than just saying that they’ve cancelled the flights! Heathrow is much better for me as it happens.

Having read Peter’s blog relating to flights from East Midlands by Tui, I found that although the Tui app did not indicate anything wrong for our booking, checking the website showed no flight was scheduled for Monday 26th April for our confirmed flights. On contacting customer services they confirmed flight cancelled, alternative Gatwick or Manchester or cancellation and full refund. Have chosen the latter rebooked with Jet2 await refund in 5 – 10 days .

  21. Had email from EasyJet today flight from Manchester in the 26th October has been cancelled. Have not had the return flight cancelld yet 2nd Nov. Will have to try our luck again next year now.

  22. Think if you have booked a return flight it means it’s all cancelled , it’s all disruptive and very annoying as ours will get cancelled at Xmas and we have other family members going from different airports , what am horrible year it’s been !

  23. As of today, EasyJet are still selling flights to Funchal from Gatwick in the week before Christmas. No mention of not flying until March on their website. Hoping to fly out on Christmas Eve for two weeks. Staying in the UK over Christmas/New Year this year doesn’t bear thinking about.

  26. BA’s flights to FNC are scheduled to depart Gatwick from Sunday 28th March onwards, until then it’s Heathrow for all short haul departures. There is a view, though, that this might change and LHR will continue to be the departure point beyond then, meaning FNC and other sunshine flights will possibly remain at Heathrow into next summer.

  27. I have noticed that my flight from Bristol to funchal on the 18th Nov, has now been put on the easyjet site as no flights available! It hasn’t been cancelled as yet. I wonder if any one else sees this and thinks its been cancelled and not just fully booked?
