MADEIRA WITH THREE MORE NEW CASES AND 15 UNDER STUDY

Today there are three new positive cases to report, so RAM now counts 247 confirmed cases of Covid-19. These are two cases imported from the United Kingdom and one from Colombia.

There are also two new cases recovered and 15 new situations that are being studied by the health authorities, all identified in the screening operation implemented at Madeira airport. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing.

  1. Seems that UK tourists are bringing a lot more than their luggage when they come to Madeira. It is possible to get a private virus test in the UK. The Madeira government could require that anyone from the UK is stopped boarding their flight unless they produce a very current certificate at the boarding stage. Given the widespread failure now in the UK to abide by the basic rules of distancing and wearing masks ( two MPs and the PM’s father for example) why import such risks ? Sadly the so called ‘Great British Public’ are in many cases no such thing.

    1. Michael you are right about the situation in England the virus will just keep spreading. There are people who do not wear masks, others who do not cover their nose, do not distance and the list goes on. We have had protest marches against the virus, work that one out!
      My husband follow all the rules and only go out for food and petrol. But we have just cancelled a seven week holiday in Madeira over christmas and new year because of the situation.

    2. As a percentage it is very small and the government testing system seems to be catching the positive ones quite well.

      Private tests are still costly, I was charged one hundred and forty euros before an operation in Hospital de Luz.

      Hopefully our visitors will behave with respect for our way of handling this pandemic.

    3. I believe the process as practised when landing is the best situation the authorities can use. Bearing in mind that it takes up to two weeks for the virus symptoms to show, if they do, then any test taken in the UK will be meaningless. As to the wearing of masks, my estimate is 50% of the locals wear them whilst in Funchal. The idiots in the UK who do not wear them whilst in shops are a small minority, unfortunately the virus thrives on small minorities.
