SESARAM admits the existence of transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19 disease, inside public hospitals in Madeira.
This possibility is part of a communication sent today to service directors and a group of other professionals, by the clinical director of SESARAM.
In the document, José Júlio Nóbrega diagnoses the situation and reveals the decisions taken to prevent the problem from growing.
“The evolution of the pandemic COVID-19 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira with the increase in the number of cases of local transmission and with the diagnosis of infection by SARS-COV-2 in the institution (hospitals of Marmeleiros and Dr. João de Almada), compatible with probable nosocomial (hospital) transmission within and between wards. Therefore, the Clinical Directorate determined additional measures to those taken last Friday, the 12th.
These measures include ‘conducting interim screening to SARS-CoV 2 in the hospitals of Marmeleiros and Dr. João de Almada on December 16.2020’, ‘conducting systematic screening to SARS-CoV2 of users and health professionals of Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça during the next 7 days’, and ‘use by professionals of FFP2 mask, during the assistance activity that implies direct contact with the user, throughout SESARAM’.
Diário Notícias knows that today the infections of two nurses and two operational assistants at Hospital dos Marmeleiros have been confirmed.
The Contingency Plan is activated and people in need of health care should not stop looking for health centers and hospitals themselves.
