160 new cases new maximum daily high

This Tuesday, Madeira registers 160 new cases of covid-19, the new maximum since the beginning of the pandemic.

“These are nine imported cases (seven from the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo Region and two from the Northern Region of Portugal) and 151 cases of local transmission, most of which are already associated with contacts or contexts of positive cases”, says the epidemiological bulletin from the Regional Health Directorate, adding that “the epidemiological investigations of the cases are still ongoing”.

“It should be noted that 48 of the cases of local transmission reported today were identified within the scope of the epidemiological investigation underway in a Residential Structure for Elderly people in the public sector. With regard to the outbreak identified at this institution, a total of 68 cases of COVID-19 (46 residents and 22 employees). Some definitive results of the laboratory tests carried out today are still awaited, to be repeated during tomorrow “, adds the bulletin released this evening.

Today there are 98 more recovered cases to report and the Region now counts 2680 cases recovered from Covid-19.

There is a new death to report today. A 72 year old man died at home with Covid-19 from heart failure. The Region now accounts for a total of 35 deaths associated with Covid-19.

There are 1946 active cases, of which 116 are imported cases and 1830 are locally transmitted.

Regarding the isolation of active cases, 64 people are hospitalized at the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital (56 people in a Multipurpose Unit and 8 in the Intensive Care Unit dedicated to Covid-19) and 31 people are in isolation in a dedicated hotel unit, the rest remaining in own accommodation.

In total, adds the epidemiological bulletin of this Tuesday, “there are 262 new situations that are being studied today by health authorities, which are related to contacts with positive cases, situations reported to the SRS24 line or to SESARAM, EPERAM”.
