29 positive test results for teachers and school staff

The tests carried out on teachers and other employees of educational establishments in Madeira made it possible to detect 29 positive cases of covid-19 and another inconclusive one.

During this weekend, all tests that were scheduled were carried out, thus totaling approximately 10,000 since last January 4th and today.

  1. So if we take those 29 out of 10,000 tested as a rough random pool of the population it would indicate that roughly 3 in 1,000 people are walking around Madeira with covid, presumably most of those tested in this sample wouldn’t have been displaying symptoms.

    I’d be amazed if schools weren’t closed now to stop the spread before it gets all out of hand. If teachers are randomly testing positive like that then it’s likely kids would too. I think that with a lot of the continent locked down and with the big drop in tourism at this time of year anyway, Madeira is likely to at least partially lock down now to try to get a handle on this

    1. I believe the schools should close, if most infections are in family chains, its possible the kids were still at school and it’s just spreading.
