BAD WEATHER FORCES CÂMARA DO FUNCHAL TO CLOSE BATHING COMPLEXES AND PARQUE ECOLÓGICO DO FUNCHAL

The Funchal City Council (CMF) informs that tomorrow, Monday, January 4, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) foresees the occurrence of adverse weather conditions on the South Coast of Madeira Island, which are likely to cause damage or harm to persons and property. So it will close the bathing complexes and the Parque Ecológico do Funchal.

In addition to the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Funchal, teams from the Department of the Environment, the Division of Gardens and Urban Green Spaces, Águas do Funchal and the Department of Infrastructures and Equipment are also on the prevention side. The Municipal Civil Protection Service of Funchal recommends to the population the adoption of preventive and self-protection measures in the face of heavy rainfall, notably:

– adoption of defensive driving, reducing speed and taking special care with the possible formation of water tables;

– avoid routes in mountainous areas, exposed slopes and coastal areas;

– be especially careful when circulating and staying near wooded areas, paying attention to the possibility of falling branches or trees and other debris, as well as staying close to mounted or suspended infrastructures;

– try to unblock the rainwater drainage systems near the houses;

– be attentive to the instructions of the Civil Protection and Security Forces.
