FILIPE SOUSA ASKED FOR POSTPONEMENT OF THE OPENING OF SCHOOLS, BUT RECEIVED NO RESPONSE FROM THE GOVERNMENT

The Mayor of Santa Cruz, Filipe Sousa yesterday sent a message to the President of the Regional Government asking for the postponement of the opening of schools in the municipality of Santa Cruz. However, at the end of this morning, the mayor’s office revealed to our newspaper that he had not yet received any response or any justification from the Madeiran Executive regarding his proposal.

Filipe Sousa asked in the message for the opening of schools to be postponed, at least, two weeks, for the safety of the citizens, since, according to him, “only teachers and employees, a very small part of the educational community, were tested circumstance of the virus incubation period being, in some cases, 14 days ”.
The mayor believes that postponing the opening of schools would thus be a “prudent measure” and would contribute to “flatten the contagion curve, which is quite high in the Region and in the municipality of Santa Cruz”.
