FOUR MORE DEATHS IN MADEIRA, INCLUDING A 38-YEAR-OLD WOMAN

Four more people died in Madeira due to Covid-19.

In the last 24 hours, two men (69 and 71 years old) and a woman (38 years old) with Covid-19 died at Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital. All were admitted to the Covid-19 Multipurpose Unit. Today, there is still the death of a 73-year-old woman with Covid-19 at home.

To date, the Region accounts for a total of 27 deaths associated with the disease.

    The 38 year old woman is my daughter what I know my daughter didn’t pass away with covid as it is in the news my daughter passed away from cancer there is proof that 10 years ago she fought not everything dies in hospital has the covid I deny that’s a lie I’m going to dunicate this I’m going to give part of all these people (translated)

  3. A significant number of these deaths are people who die with rather than of Covid. That’s the same for all countries. Very sad whatever the cause though.

There appears to be a lack of understanding about how the cause(s) of death is understood and recorded by health professionals and an associated inference that Covid death totals are being overstated.. Underlying conditions are not necessarily the immediate cause of death. The immediate cause of death as recorded on a death certificate is the disease, injury, or complication that directly preceded death. A patient may have, and almost everyone does have, other underlying conditions that may compromise their overall health and make them less able to survive additional disease or injury. These underlying conditions are generally recorded on death certificates, and may contribute to death, but they are not necessarily related to the immediate cause of death.
    You may have cancer and all the unfortunate health implications that entails, but if you die from an overwhelming Covid infection Covid is considered the immediate cause of death because in the absence of Covid you would most likely still be alive. Covid precipitated the final chain of events that led to death.

    1. Well said, Dan! When I saw the news about the death of the 38-year-old woman, I wondered how soon people would pounce to say “with, not of” and try to minimize the gravity of the illness. These armchair experts clearly don’t understand how cause of death is ascertained and are engaging in wishful thinking, believing that all of these deaths can be blamed on age or chronic conditions. Sorry, but no, that’s not how it works. If an old person is murdered, the immediate cause of death was not old age, it was the wounds cause by the murder weapon. If a diabetic dies in a crash, the injuries resulting from the crash are the cause of death, not the mere fact that they have diabetes. I suffer from seasonal allergies. If I fall off a mountain and die, my allergies are irrelevant to the cause of death and it would be insulting for anyone to go, “Well, she had allergies. Not in perfect health, falling of a mountain wouldn’t be a big deal for someone in optimal health.” It’s short-sighted, incorrect, and contributing to misinformation about the serious situation the world is facing. Wake up.
