  2. Agree with Jill, very worrying, we were due to come out to Madeira mid February but already knew deep down that the trip wouldn’t go ahead, keeping our fingers crossed for a little later in the year

  3. Working out good for us. We had already changed our 22nd Feb. Holiday let to october for 4 weeks. Jet2 wanted an arm and a leg in extra charges to change the flights. I refused and told them I would wait and hope they cancelled.
    Will rebook when we receive our refund….
    It would be a nightmare with all thats going on and hopefully things will be a lot better after the summer.
    On another note does anybody know if the Calheta to Jardine do Mar new road will be open by then😕

    1. Hopefully but the summer they said, but let’s wait and see.. At the moment let hey have opened it as the old road the other side from Paul do Mar has had so many rockfalls, but I sure they will get it back to being closed soon and work can carry on.

  4. We were not due to come until 8th March but I was beginning to think that was not going to happen. We will definitely be over when we can. Hope uou all are staying safe and take care.

    1. Yes, we were also due to come out to our apartment on 8th March but luckily had held off booking the flights. We had enough experience of cancelled flights last March.

    If all the airlines are cancelling all of their flights, how are the Madeirans that work and Live in the UK getting home?
    Let alone the British tourists still on the Island

    1. I believe Easyjet Wizz and BA are still flying. I was on the Island from the 14th Dec, one of the first conversations was with three couples staying at the Savoy Palace who had their holidays cut short because Jet2 had sent emails saying they were cancelling their return flights and that they must take the next Jet2 flight home. Same conversation at the Carlton on the 21st. Waiting at the Airport on Jan 9th I spoke to a couple who had refused to be bullied and had stayed on at their own expense until 8th, when they were returning with Jet2. This also was cancelled and they purchased Easyjet flights, Funchal/Bristol. They were then hiring a car to get to Manchester. Easyjet get a bad press here on the blog but what Jet2 has done stinks. They contracted to provide a service. Some service.

      1. Have just been informed by Easyjet that my Feb 10 Bristol/Madeira flight has been cancelled although they seem to be still selling flights in February and March.

  6. Inward/Outward flights still showing as available on Jet2.com between Manchester and Funchal from February 13th onward as at 18:15….Have they suspended all flights????

    I want to ask you if you know how the vaccinations are going in Madeira?
    I heard that it is very delayed but I can’t find any information about it..
    Do they have any plan or information regarding when most of the population will/should be vaccinated?
    We are supposed to go to the island in June and have a wedding for about 70 guests but I’m not sure it will happen….

  8. We too are due to visit later on in the year but only if there is significant change.

    I cannot comment on current issues regarding Jet 2 but due to torrid wind conditions
    a few years back and all fights were grounded I can only praise Jet 2 in the way we were looked
    after.
    We were accommodated in a 5* hotel with BBL until flights resumed.

    My brother was also offered an early flight home from Funchal cutting his visit short by a few days in the Spring due to the Pandemic. It was his first visit with them.
    He was a regular with BA for many years because of the preferred flight times, he has now
    converted to Jet2 because of their superb Customer Service and wil be travelling with them
    when permitted.

    We all experience different situations,I am sure they will do what they deem as best during these
    uncertain and difficult times in Aviation history.

  9. Agree with Erin. Jet2 have been very good to us over the years. One year, with a delay on the return flights, my parents were put up at a 5* quinta whereas my brother and his family, flying home with another carrier, had to find their own accommodation and flights, and claim back later. Also, Jet2 reimbursed last year’s flights promptly, whereas other companies held onto the cash for as long as possible…

  10. When the uk government lift restrictions on travel also providing madeira also lift the restrictions on uk citizens there end flights sould resume could be before march fingers crossed

  11. I’m not expecting any ‘unfettered’ flights between the UK and Madeira until September at the very earliest. If we can get out for our regular mid-September visit in 8 months time I will feel extremely happy as it also means I might be able to get our Christmas 2021 and the New Year 2022 visit as well. I really hope I’m wrong as a late Spring visit would go down as an added bonus.

  14. Easyjet Switzerland informed me today that all flights to Funchal are cancelled for 2021. 3 planned holiday trips to the island have thus dissolved for me. No matter the restrictions have become far too strict for me anyway. Curfew? Really?

  15. Madeira did a fantastic job containing the Virus ,unfortunately they are not invincible and now must do what they feel is neccessary Curfew or other means.
    The economy will no doubt suffer as will many other places whom rely on tourism.
    Aviation / Tour Companies are also taking a hammering, if we all adhere to advice we may enjoy
    the the standard of life that we are used too sooner than later.

  16. Oh dear. Another holiday cancelled. We were looking forward to it too. Situation is bad all over so it’s better to be safe than sorry. This is the fifth holiday we’ve had cancelled since last March, two of them to Madeira. Thinking of getting sunbeds, sauna and spray tans maybe!!!!!
