REID’S CLOSES ON FEBRUARY 1st

The Belmond Reid’s Palace Hotel survived the First World War and the Spanish Flu, but did not resist the pandemic that is plaguing the world.

The Hotel was forced to close its doors due to the Covid-19 and will enter into a lay-off regime.

According to news reported by RTP-Madeira, the charismatic hotel unit adopts this measure on February 1st.

    As I once responded to someone who’s only defence to someone’s action was to state what they deemed the obvious ” anyone with common sense would know” my response was ” we are not all blessed with common sense, even the most educated of us”

  4. Weren’t they shut during the first lockdown (along with all the other hotels)? No great surprise surely?

    I think they will bounce back in style. Reid’s is favoured by the nicely-pensioned blue rinse brigade and they will all be vacinnated and itching to get over here pretty soon.

  6. My husband promised me afternoon tea at Reid’s for my 70th birthday on our next trip which was supposed to be starting on 8th March. This has now been cancelled by Jet2. Hope Reid’s opens up later on in the year and we can get over.

    1. Jet2? Why do so many Brits insist on traveling like it’s still 1961. There’s this thing called the Internet now. You haven’t needed these tour package companies for decades.

  9. Hi Tobi, Hotel Bars have now been told to close the same time as outside bars, what are your thoughts on this?

    1. Oh I did wonder how the hotels would be doing this. I personally think it’s unfair, as customers have paid for a service, and I can’t see any of the hotels being that busy, I guess they are still doing dinner.?

  10. Hi Tobi, yes they are still serving dinner (Pestana Carlton) with drinks in the restaurant only but as the UK is in total lockdown I can’t complain too much. Not sure when I am going back to Blighty as they keep cancelling my flights. My Friends and family in the UK keep telling me “ Don’t rush back”

  12. Arlehne, I would also go for tea at Quinta Jardim do Lago. Beautiful gardens , and the afternoon tea gives Reids a run for its money.
