More than 18,000 vaccinated in Madeira against Covid-19

By the end of today, more than 18,000 people will have been vaccinated in Madeira against the covid-19, said the regional secretary of Health, who this morning visited with the vice president of the Regional Government, Pedro Calado, the Vaccination Center from Funchal , assembled at Madeira Tecnopólo. “Naturally we are satisfied and when there are more vaccines we will intensify our vaccination speed more”, guaranteed Pedro Ramos, revealing that the Region is waiting to receive 4,650 doses of the new vaccine from Astrazeneca.

The Region should be informed by the end of tomorrow of the vaccination plan for the coming weeks, after the meeting of the team that manages vaccination at the national level and which is led by Vice Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo. This will be the first appointment of the responsibility of the new national coordinator, after the departure of Francisco Ramos, who outlined what Madeira is currently finishing.

However, the regional secretary for health revealed expectations for the next shipment: “Astrazeneca vaccines are those that we are ready to receive. I must tell you, and it was the content of the mail I sent yesterday to the Vice Admiral, that Madeira is waiting for the 4,650 doses that were in fact previously assigned ”. Pedro Ramos explains that he is counting on this number because in the first phase, the Region was going to receive 1,825 vaccines from the new laboratory and chose not to receive it. “We dispensed with that dose because we still had Pfizer vaccines, so we will now receive the totality of the two shipments, which corresponds to 2.5% in terms of demographic proportion.”

Madeira is finishing the second week of vaccination of the population according to the priorities previously established in the national and regional plans, dividing the counties by the days of the week. On Monday are the municipalities of Machico and Ribeira Brava, on Tuesday in Calheta, on Wednesday the vaccination is done in São Vicente and Porto Moniz, the next day in Santa Cruz and Santana and on Friday in Câmara de Lobos and Ponta do Sol. Saturdays and Sundays are reserved for the population of the municipality of Funchal.

Vaccination started on 31 December in Madeira and on 1 January in Porto Santo.
