Madeira follows plan with Pfizer vaccine

To date, 3,543 people have been vaccinated in Madeira with AstraZeneca.

In a note sent to the newsrooms this evening, the Regional Health Directorate (DRS) informs that “vaccination against Covid-19 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira will continue with the administration of the Pfizer vaccine”.

On the contrary, the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine is suspended in the Region, following the instructions of the General Directorate of Health and the National Medicines Authority.

To date, 3,543 people have been vaccinated in Madeira with AstraZeneca, out of a total of 35 thousand vaccines already administered. “No serious adverse effects have been reported,” reveals the DRS.

The vaccination campaign will continue in the Municipal Vaccination Centers, with the administration of the Pfizer vaccine, on the days and in places already known to the population, including vaccination over the weekend in the municipality of Funchal, in Madeira Tecnopolo.

The vaccination against Covid-19, which was scheduled for the next business days, at Madeira Tecnopolo, with the AstraZeneca vaccine, has been canceled.

DRS recalls that it has a free helpline for the population dedicated to covid-19 vaccination, SRS VACINA COVID-19 800 210 263.

  1. Seems bizarre that EU countries are halting use of the Astra vaccine based on very little evidence. From what I can tell there has been less than 40 cases of blood clots potentially associated with the tens of thousands of Astra vaccinations. Indeed it is now being reported the Pfizer vaccine is producing similar results.
    Grid forbid this is politics at its worst, putting lives at risk.

    The EUs dismal vaccine performance .. shame on them and pity the people.

  3. Well the clock is now ticking. How many people will die in April/May due to them having their AstraZeneca vaccine appointment cancelled ?… and who will take responsibility for this ?

Perhaps the people who have had their vaccinations cancelled at the Tecnopolo, presumably because it would have been with the AstroZeneca should have been asked whether they would have been happy to be vaccinated, on a turn up basis or wait for either a favorable report on the vaccine or delivery of the alternative.

  5. Up to the 14th March 17 MILLION people in the UK and Europe, myself included, have been vaccinated with the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine. Out of 1 million UNvaccinated people approx 120 per month experience DVT or pulmonary embolism. So less than 40 cases out of 17 million vaccinated people is a considerably lower rate. Check for yourself, this information is presented by Dr John Campbell who does daily updates on Youtube and gives links to peer reviewed scientific papers where possible. The WHO and the European Medicines Agency as well as the equivalent agency in the UK have all approved this vaccine. I find it sad that people who want a vaccine are experiencing this delay.
