The Mondego patrol ship docked this morning in Porto Santo to start yet another mission in the Madeira Maritime Zone, with the aim of securing its Standard Naval Device until 11 June.
According to the Portuguese Navy, the ship is being commanded by First Lieutenant Lopes Monteiro, sailing with a garrison of 27 military personnel.
The ship will carry out patrol and surveillance actions and ensure the safety of spaces under the jurisdiction of the Madeira Maritime Zone Command, with the function of ensuring the surrender of the guards of the Institute for Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) and the Maritime Police in the Desertas and Selvagens Islands.
The NRP Mondego thus replaces the NRP Douro that started this Monday at the Naval Base in Lisbon.
It should be noted that this ship will remain in Porto Santo until the 25th of March when the transit to Funchal port will start.
