3 New Cases, All Imported

Today there are 3 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection reported in RAM.

These are 3 imported cases, 1 from the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 1 from the United Kingdom and 1 from Spain.

There are 12 recovered cases, with the Region accounting for 62 active cases, of which 15 are imported and 47 are of local transmission.

  1. Oh dear, one from the UK – won’t be long before the calls to ban Brits start appearing!

  2. Can we assume the UK traveler was tested at the airport and found positive there. I ask as it seems impossible he would have a test prior to leaving the UK and board with a positive result, if the Airline would even let him board without a test result. He is now facing Government quarantine until testing negative. In view of this I think the best thing to do is to have your test in the UK. Anybody care to comment ?

    2. This testing is all a bit of a shambles, I booked and paid fit my day 2test after arriving in the UK, I have not heard a thing, no results, no response to emails nothing. Now I will book a PCR Test to come back to the UK. I take regular lateral flow tests to see I’m negative, but what if it showed positive before I come back, I could just do my PCR test on a friend, get the results upload to Madeira safe, and board my flight, thinking I could be positive.

  3. No one is supposed to come from the UK anyway on none essential business as Portugal is not in the green classification. Seems like many people ignore the rules and don’t care about putting others at risk.

    1. Of course the person failing the test could have had essential business in Madeira, but I bow to your superior knowledge.

    2. More false information, anymore and your comments will be banned. Learn the facts before you open your mouth, people can choose to travel on Amber, as long as they know they have to quarantine, and pay for two tests.

  4. Yes your right Richard, and perhaps the person who was uk didn’t have the two injections so had another test on arrival.
    So confusing but previously its been said there is a incobabatation period and two test are more reliable. But I can’t imagine the airline allowing transit without a negative result. But the same applies to the Spain and Lisbon coronavirus individuals.
    Won’t be long before we see the Delta, this will be a sad day. when if everything published is true cases are in single figers.

  6. A test is just a snapshot of the situation. For example, a negative test in the UK can mean, that there is a beginning infection with just not enough virus load (yet) to trigger the test. Then the virus load increases until arrival at Madeira, yielding a positive result there. This is only one of several scenarios where a negative test in UK and a positive in Madeira can happen. So the system of two tests helps to protect Madeira.

    1. I agree with most of what you say but was under the impression that if the traveller had a negative test result he would not be tested on arrival. Therefore no two tests.

  8. The flight is from the UK which doesn’t automatically mean that they are British!

    1. True but if it’s from Britain Mr. Greaves will argue against it/they, being here.

  9. UK citizens are not forbidden to travel to places on the Amber list. They have to quarantine upon return home but they are not banned from going.

  10. It would be interesting to know where or possibly why this person was tested and they are not the first person to have flown from UK and tested positive. I did not think airlines allowed you to check-in without proof of a negative test or fully vaccinated so how did this person slip through, could they been a transit passenger passing through a UK airport.

    1. If the traveller hadn’t a negative test taken in the UK but relied on the fact he had been vaccinated twice to argue his way onto the aircraft, from past comments, people do this and it seems Madeira are happy to accept this as long as a test is taken on arrival. This would account for his being tested and being found positive. He/she will now quarantine in a Government chosen hotel until a negative result is taken.
      This is what I was going to do on my next visit, July but I think taking the test in the UK is the least troublesome route.

      1. If you have double vaccine, and the 2nd has to be done at least two weeks before travel, you don’t need any test for Madeira.

    2. You can come to Madeira without a test, it’s on the UK GOV site, but if you do then you will need a PCR Test on arrival and be taken to a hotel while you wait the results.

        This is, I assume, how we get the statistics for foreigners reported as being positive. From the airport test, taken because they have not been tested in the country the flight originated from.

  11. It’s not all about the uk people, its positive results from all countries.
    No one seems to know the answer, but this situation is nothing new.

  12. Why pick on the one from UK ……..not a single comment about the positive tests on passengers from Spain and Portugal……could be construed as racist comments.

  13. Hello Tobi. It seems you dislike my comments that draw attention to commentary that is somewhat illiterate. But I hope you agree that accuracy is important, especially on a news site. This applies to numbers, as well as words. Take a leading BBC Covid related article today. It states that

    – of the 108,911 people tested, 135 were positive – a rise from 0.1% to 0.15%

    This statement is clearly nonsense, two seconds on a calculator will show you that. And therefore very misleading. Just saying.
