New Year starts with temperature exceeding 26°C

The New Year starts hot in Madeira. On this first day of 2022, until solar noon (13:00), the highest maximum temperature recorded today was 26.4 ºC, at Quinta Grande. According to the records of the IPMA automatic meteorological stations in Madeira, the following were: Porto Moniz (25.6 ºC), Lugar de Baixo/Ponta do Sol (23.3 ºC), São Vicente (23.1 ºC) and Funchal/Observatory (23.0 ºC).

Only meteorological stations located above 1000 meters of attitude did not reach temperatures above 20 ºC. The lowest maximum, 13.7 ºC, was recorded at Pico do Areeiro.

2021 said goodbye with a maximum of 28.4 ºC in Porto Moniz

Yesterday, the last day of 2021, the extreme maximum temperature reached 28.4 ºC, in Porto Moniz. Also noteworthy are the very significant values ​​achieved in São Vicente (26.9 ºC), Ponta de São Jorge and Funchal/Observatory (26.0 ºC). It was the hottest day of December.

In Funchal/Observatory, it was the third highest record in December since 2008. The 26.0 ºC recorded yesterday in the ‘Madeira capital’ is only surpassed by 27.1 ºC, on December 8, 2018, and by 26, 5°C felt on December 27, 2019.
