Porto Santo “is an underutilized island”

We have less tourism, even if it seems the opposite, in some places and at some times of the year. A conviction shared at the APAVT Congress by Carlos Guimarães Pinto who considers that there should be much more Tourism and in many more regions, as what makes it seem like we have too much Tourism “is having less economy”, and little growth in different sectors.

“We have a lot to grow”, says the deputy to the Assembly of the Republic, for the Liberal Initiative, who was in Porto Santo last September “with fabulous weather and fantastic water temperatures”.

He saw half a dozen tourists on the beach, an almost empty beach that deserved notice. It is “one of the most paradisiacal islands in Europe and has almost no capacity to receive tourists”, he said.

He admitted that he was being controversial, apologized to those who manage the destination, but said: “It is an underutilized island”.

I agree, it could easily be a 9 month destination island, shutting down a little Jan – March when the weather is colder, and no bloody Ferry in January.
