65-year-old man dies on board vessel in Funchal

“A 65-year-old man of English nationality died this afternoon, December 9th, victim of a sudden illness on board a maritime tourist vessel, in Funchal, on the island of Madeira”, reports the National Maritime Authority in a press release released recently.

It is explained that “following an alert received at 2:14 pm, through the Regional Civil Protection Service, informing that an individual who was on board the maritime-tourist vessel had fallen victim to a sudden illness, they were immediately activated for the Marina do Funchal members of the Funchal Maritime Police Local Command, as well as the Rapid Intervention Medical Team (EMIR)”.

Thus, “the victim was assisted by EMIR, and it was not possible to reverse the situation”, with the death being “declared on site by the Health Delegate” and the body “transported to the Funchal Medical-Legal and Forensic Office”.

According to the note, “the Maritime Police Psychology Office has been activated and is providing support to the victim’s family”, and “the Funchal Maritime Police Local Command took charge of the incident”, he concludes.
