The Portuguese-Brazilian swimmer, Mayra Santos, made history again by becoming, this afternoon, the first person to swim around the island of Porto Santo, without interruptions.
Living in Madeira for 19 years, Mayra Santos accomplished this feat with a time of 11:19.52 hours, surpassing her prediction of 12 hours that she had set when she left at 7 am from Cais Velho on the golden island to cover the 32 kilometers .
Upon arrival at the golden sand, where there were several people, including her family and friends, the athlete explained what the experience of this challenge was like, which had a water temperature of 21 degrees and, at times, strong waves. Even so, and as is her characteristic, with her dexterity and adventurous spirit, Mayra knew how to deal with adversity in the best way possible.
