Fog makes it difficult to rescue Spanish tourist in Porto Moniz

Foreign citizen is in a difficult to access location in the Lamaceiros mountains.

The helicopter from the Regional Civil Protection Service was called in this afternoon to rescue a Spanish tourist who was in a difficult to access location in the Mareja area, in Serra dos Lamaceiros.

However, due to the intense fog in the high areas of Porto Moniz, the air force was forced to abort the mission, leaving the rescue to the Volunteer Firefighters of São Vicente and Porto Moniz, who are also assisted by the Forest Police.

Therefore, at this moment, the four operators, two from each department, are already on the ground carrying out the search and rescue operation for the tourist who “is well and in contact” with the rescuers.

“The Spanish citizen is alone and, apparently from the photographs he sent, is equipped to last for some time, as he is wearing thermal blankets, and in contact with us”, explained the colonel.
