‘Full house’ in Madeira for New Year’s Eve

Madeira fills up again for the end of year, which is one of the destination’s main tourist attractions.

For New Year’s Eve, 100% occupancy is expected, according to the regional secretary of Tourism and Culture.

Eduardo Jesus adds that the 60 thousand visitors waiting on land will be joined by another 30 thousand at sea, including crew and passengers of the eight cruise ships that will beautify the bay of Funchal on the night of December 31st.

This is “the best way to close a year in which Madeira recorded all the maximum possible, in 200 years of tourism history, both in terms of occupation and in terms of the sector’s profitability”. 2023 is marked as a year in which “Madeira grew a lot in quantity, but also grew a lot in value”, explains the government official, who adds that “this is a very good indicator”.

Eduardo Jesus emphasizes that “the Regional Government was strongly committed to this leap that tourism sought to take”, both in 2022 and 2023, the year in which the growth trajectory was consolidated. “There was very relevant public investment, accompanied by the private sector and it was all of this action that resulted in this success”.
