Madeira is among the ten best Christmas markets 2023-2024. The European Best Destinations website submitted more than a hundred Christmas destinations on the European continent to voters for consideration, with the aim of choosing a top 20.
Madeira, representing Portugal, achieved a place in the top 10. It was in 9th position.
More than half a million people voted, from 168 countries.
I agree Madeira has a nice atmosphere at Christmas, and all the little huts along Avenue Arriaga add to the magic.
I think the lack of street food let’s it down though, as I watch a lot of videos of Christmas markets around Europe and the UK, and they all have a really good choice of things to eat, something Madeira really lacks.
