The president of the Regional Government presented his resignation from his position to the Representative of the Republic for RAM.
After an hour of hearing at the Palácio de São Lourenço, Miguel Albuquerque confirmed the resignation he had announced on Friday and Ireneu Barreto assured that it would not take immediate effect.
Albuquerque made it known that he will not occupy the position of deputy in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira and that the Party meeting scheduled for late afternoon today will be cancelled.
Ireneu Barreto and Albuquerque made it clear that the most likely scenario is to keep Albuquerque in office until the vote on the Regional Budget.
The Representative of the Republic also made it clear that at this hearing no name was presented by Albuquerque for his succession.
The Representative of the Republic for RAM confirmed that “for now” the resignation presented by the president of the Regional Government does not have immediate effect.
Ireneu Barreto claims to be “considering” with Albuquerque “what is the best time for this dismissal to take effect”. At issue are the “pending problems”, namely the Regional Budget, which considers it appropriate to assess whether “it is necessary to first approve the Regional Budget before dismissal, or whether this can be left for another situation”.
What is certain is that when the Government ‘falls’ it will begin “the normal process of listening to the parties and then making a decision”.
