Around 12 tons of rubbish collected in Funchal after New Year celebrations

There was a decrease in waste production during the New Year’s Eve celebrations in the city of Funchal, said this Monday, January 1st, the president of the municipality of the capital of Madeira.

Pedro Calado took stock of the cleaning operation in the city of Funchal this morning, when he pointed out that around “12 tons” of garbage were produced last night, a decrease compared to the previous year, something “very positive given the number of people” present in downtown Funchal.

The president of the Funchal City Council expects four tons less garbage collected this year than last year.

For the future, the municipality’s intention is to further reduce the amount of waste during New Year’s Eve, with the use of reusable cups being one of the measures to be considered, he said.

For the cleaning operation, which will last throughout the day, 123 CMF workers have been called up, including drivers, cleaning corner workers, foremen and service managers, with around 20 vehicles.
