The television channel CNN Internacional broadcast some moments of the New Year’s Eve fireworks display in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, a pyrotechnic display that “completely exceeded” expectations.
According to Portuguese reporter Maria João Rosa, who was covering the End of the Year in the city of Funchal for the first time, what was already considered by the Guinness Book of Records as the biggest fireworks show in the world “was absolutely incredible “.
“In the last minutes of the show it seemed like it was daytime, everything was clear”, she described during CNN Internacional’s live broadcast.
“People were very excited to watch this incredible show”, she pointed out.
During 8 minutes of fireworks with an apotheosis of 40 seconds, 20,222 kilos of explosive material were used, distributed among 97,500 pyrotechnic pieces, to materialize a project called ‘Madeira, Ex-líbris do Atlântico’ run by Macedo’s Pirotecnia, a company private company that promotes Madeira’s New Year’s Eve event for the twentieth time.
