This Monday, January 1st, the first day of 2024, there are many Madeirans who, rain or shine, will take their first dip in the New Year. Spending the day at home with the family or touring the island are also common practices during this holiday.
Check out the regional events scheduled for today:
– 10:30 am – Funchal City Council holds a press conference, at the entrance to Cais do Funchal, to present the balance of the cleaning operation and the end of the year, with the presence of the president of the municipality, Pedro Calado;
– 12 noon – The Complexo Balnear do Galo, in Caniço-de-Baixo, promotes a Galo Plunge (in Portuguese a quick dive), the first of the year;
– At 5 pm and 8 pm – New Year’s Concert by Orquestra Clássica da Madeira at Teatro Baltazar Dias;
– 3:30 pm – The Casa do Povo of São Roque do Faial celebrates Sick Day with the ‘Peasants’ Playing and Singing Group visiting the sick in the parish;
– 6 pm – The Madeira Mandolin Orchestra performs its traditional New Year’s Concert in the Noble Hall of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira.
