“Disturbing disappearance” of French couple in Madeira

The disappearance without a trace of Véronique and Laurent Blond, who were on vacation in Madeira, is already major news in France. As they had done before, they went for a walk on March 16, without their daughter. From then on, the mystery deepens and no one has seen them since. In France, the Public Ministry opened an investigation into a “disturbing disappearance”, according to JM. The Republicain Lorrain published an article on Wednesday afternoon about the process and investigation.

Véronique and Laurent Blond, aged 56 and 57, were on holiday in Madeira with their daughter Johanna, aged 27. On March 16, this couple of bakers, originally from Beaumont-de-Lomagne (Tarn-et-Garonne), went for a walk and left their daughter Johanna to rest at home, a local accommodation in São Vicente.

In France, the prosecutor of the Republic of Montauban, Bruno Sauvage, opened an investigation “for disturbing disappearance”, after being informed by the “crisis magistrate and support center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”, reveals the “Republicain Lorrain”.

The searches carried out in the Castelsarrasin district resulted in a “home visit” to the couple’s home, in Beaumont-de-Lomagne. Nothing was found to suggest a deliberate disappearance, authorities reveal. From a technical point of view, “the several telephone requests made immediately” did not allow “the cell phone to be located”, said Bruno Sauvage.

Authorities question whether it was an accident or a voluntary disappearance. So far, there is nothing concrete.

The newspaper reveals that the daughter, Johanna, is very active on social media, in order to alert tourists and other hikers who may know the place well.

”They left with two bottles of water, just a little money. Normally, they were in the mindset of not coming back too late,” the daughter told TF1 television last Monday.

Already in Beaumont-de-Lomagne, the daughter revealed to Republicain Lorrain that she is following the searches, now from a distance.

“Even if it is to find them dead, we need that precisely to move forward”, she adds. “If anyone has an idea, let me know or let the police know,” she added in her latest Facebook post, which was updated this Wednesday. “I’m desperate and I just want to find my parents.”
