The 42-year-old man suspected of having robbed the bank branch in Câmara de Lobos last Friday was identified today during the first interrogation, at the Madeira District Court. The interrogation was interrupted today and continues this Friday.
The individual may face charges of aggravated robbery and a crime of kidnapping, as he used ‘cable ties’ to tie up Caixa Geral de Depósitos employees and customers, threatening them with a firearm.
As reported, the man entered the bank branch masked, around 9 am, from where he stole 214 thousand euros in notes and coins. He then fled in a car that was parked about 200 meters from the bank, leaving the population terrified.
