Depression Irene will affect the weather in Madeira

Although the Madeira archipelago is not directly affected by depression Irene, a frontal system associated with it will condition the weather from tomorrow, Monday, reveals the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

From that day onwards, there will be periods of rain or showers, which will sometimes be heavy, especially on the southern slopes and highlands of the Region. The wind will intensify on Tuesday, January 16, blowing strong from the southwest, with gusts of up to 85 km/h, being strong to very strong in the highlands, with gusts of up to 100 km/h.

The increase in sea agitation will also be significant with waves in the West quadrant measuring 4 to 5 meters on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 16th and 17th. “In this sense, warnings have already been issued for precipitation, maximum gusts and yellow-level sea agitation”, IPMA also reveals.
