Madeira Concert Hall Ready for 2027

Miguel Albuquerque, accompanied by regional secretaries Pedro Fino and Eduardo Jesus, and Pedro Calado, president of Funchal City Council, visited the area that is going to be home for the new concert hall this Saturday morning.

In the first phase, excavation and peripheral containment began, with rock workers also working, essential tasks for the implementation of the building to be constructed, as well as the consolidation of the surrounding cliff, with, however, the delegation being provided with a virtual visit to what will be a new cultural space in the capital of Madeira.

“We will open the competition at the beginning of next year, based on the ’20-30′ funds, to see if we have the work already on the ground by the middle of next year”, shared at the time. Approximately two years of construction must be added to this schedule, so in an optimistic view, the regional government expects to have the building operational within 2027. The total investment will exceed 20 million euros and the construction area approaches 9,000 square meters.”

With Pedro Calado at his side, Albuquerque said that “the project is already in the Chamber, which will issue an opinion that there should not be any problems as this building complies with all regulations, whether security, remoteness or implementation… and this will be an enhancement of a noble space in the city, also in interaction with the Port of Funchal, which is one of the main tourism hubs in Madeira and I think it is a building that will ennoble and enhance our entire sea front.

Albuquerque, also highlighted the importance of the work. “Due to the number of cultural events and the artistic and cultural training we have in Madeira, we have this imperative need and our idea is to build a multifunctional building here in the prime area of the city, with two rooms. One with around 600 seats and the other with more than 200, in order to ensure that we have a space to provide the Madeiran people and those who visit us with quality shows, including, obviously, the possibility of making live recordings”, he said. . To this end, “we are carrying out a very detailed and technical treatment of the sound in this space”.

When the project is completed, “we are talking about an area that will be for the Classical Orchestra, but this space is to be open and programmed for all cultural events of all kinds, provided for all artistic groups”.
