CNN Portugal has announced that Miguel Albuquerque and Pedro Calado are being investigated by the Judiciary Police and the Public Ministry on suspicion of corruption and other associated crimes involving the highest public and political office holders in the Region.
The operation, launched this morning, has already led to around 50 home and non-home searches.
The television channel describes that on Pedro Calado’s side there are suspicions of a “corruptive pact with the AFA business group” and of “favoring the necessary council licensing approvals, in exchange for compensation”.
On Miguel Albuquerque’s side, there are also suspicions of corruption in relations of alleged promiscuity with economic groups, in this case the Pestana Group.
The mega-operation on the island of Madeira involves more than a hundred PJ inspectors and DCIAP prosecutors and involves three distinct processes, in which some of the protagonists intersect.
